Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has claimed that he did not deserve to be sent off during the club's recent Premier League defeat at Fulham.

The marshall of the Reds' back line believes that the referee erred in producing a red card for a tackle on Bobby Zamora, who would have been clear on goal if not for the challenge.

However, the 31-year-old has stated that the striker did not believe it was a foul either.

Carragher was the second Liverpool player to be sent off at Craven Cottage on Saturday, as Philipp Degen headed for an early shower following a tackle on Clint Dempsey only minutes before the stand-in skipper was asked to leave the pitch.

"I thought Degen’s red card was a bit harsh," Carragher is quoted by The Daily Star as saying. "He did not go in two-footed.

"With mine, I felt it was wrong at the time and I felt I got a toe to the ball.

"The referee was not in the greatest position and it is always a dead giveaway when the player you are tackling says at the time that I won the ball.

"Zamora actually turned to me and said I had won the ball, so that says it all."
