Deco: Chelsea Should Not Have Sacked Luiz Felipe Scolari
The Portugal international midfielder believes the Brazilian tactician might have been successful at Stamford Bridge had he been afforded more time...
Deco has stated that he believes Chelsea were unwise to sack Luiz Felipe Scolari just seven months after he was appointed as manager.
Guus Hiddink replaced the Brazilian tactician in February 2009, and the Blues went on to win the FA Cup as well is finishing 3rd in the Premier League and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
However, the Portugal international midfielder believes the west London outfit will fare better in the long-term if they stick with one manager over a prolonged period of time.
"Sometimes Abramovich makes decisions that go over the head of the director of football. The exit of "Big Phil" was rash," Deco is quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.
"Chelsea are a special club. If "Big Phil" was perhaps at Manchester United or Liverpool, they respect the coach and give him time to work.
"You look at [Arsenal boss Arsene] Wenger, who for five years hasn't won anything. [Liverpool boss Rafa] Benitez has never won the English championship.
"Chelsea are different, a special club who have a single owner and they are kind of his toy."
