Birmingham Weighing Up Move For Boateng
Birmingham City are reportedly considering making a move to take Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng on loan.
Kevin-Prince Boateng is one of the players whose minimal impact at Tottenham has caused the role of Damien Comolli at White Hart Lane to be questioned.
Boateng has not been given a squad number by manager Juande Ramos, and nor have Ricardo Rocha and Adel Taarabt, other Comolli ’discoveries.’
Therefore a loan move Birmingham in the Coca-Cola Championship could be beneficial all-round until the transfer window re-opens in January.
Birmingham’s co-owner, David Sullivan, described the deal as "still a possibility", and hinted that the German Under-21 international had been close to being bought by another club at the start of the week.
"Another club were about to buy him for a pile of money, but then changed their mind," Sullivan told the Birmingham Mail.
Boateng's wages were thought to be a stumbling block in the way of a return to Germany, where he made his name and got noticed by Comolli while playing for Hertha Berlin.
Comolli, Tottenham’s sporting director, has been scouting players for the club since 2005, but Ramos’s view of the quality of the squad he inherited last season was reflected in the fact that he allowed seven first-team players to leave.
In addition, Robbie Keane (Liverpool) and Dimitar Berbatov (Manchester United) were sold for a big profit.
Midfielder Taarabt was described by former manager Martin Jol as having the ability to become the new David Ginola, but he has so far made just six substitute appearances for Ramos.
As for centre-back Rocha, he has not had a game under Ramos, and the three players will not be allocated squad numbers unless they are called up for first-team duty.
