Tottenham Confident Poyet Will Spur Toon

Assistant manager Gus Poyet finds himself as one of the favourites to succeed the departed Kevin Keegan at Newcastle United but Tottenham Hotspur are confident he will remain at the Lane.

With all the speculation surrounding former Hotspur Dimitar Berbatov's future the career prospects of Gus Poyet remained well-hidden.

There were rumours that Sir Alex Ferguson wanted him to assist first team affairs at Old Trafford in the absence of Carlos Queiroz. The Independent quoted the Uruguayan as saying: "I want to stay at Spurs, I want to stay with this manager, this group of players and this club because I'm very happy," that was only a few months ago... had anything changed?

Poyet is now being linked with another vacant position - managing Newcastle United, but the Independent believe that Poyet's stance has not changed and he will carry on in his position at Tottenham Hotspur.

Didier Deschamps and David Moyes have also been linked with the head coach role at St. James' Park.
