The football school opened by Beto and Barreto will now have a branch at Mumbai...Indian Football School (IFS), an elite football coaching institute of India has entered into a partnership with Brasil Futbol Academia (BFA), which is the brainchild of professional Brazilian footballers Jose Ramirez Barreto and Roberto Mendes da Silva (Beto).
Speaking at the launch of the IFS-BFA union on Wednesday, Beto said that it would be great to work with IFS in Mumbai.
"I have played football in India for over a decade and have travelled all over the country and Mumbai has always been special. It’s a dream come true that we will be part of a football development program in Mumbai. The state association - Western India Football Association (WIFA), is working hard towards the development of football and that will motivate us to grow and do something to help Indian football," mentioned the flamboyant footballer.
The IFS, which runs two centres in Mumbai — at the Cooperage Stadium and Andheri Sports Complex will now gain from this association with BFA, who will add technical expertise and structure to their program. The long term vision being to develop young footballers enrolled into IFS courses. The first batch of training program will commence from the first week of July.
The kids will have an opportunity to train under the BFA curriculum with training introduced from the successful Brazilian philosophy. BFA have assigned a Technical Director, Glauco Moraes in Mumbai, who will be in charge of overseeing the project.
Former Mohun Bagan and Mahindra United striker Barreto felt that this was a special moment.
"I have played here in Mumbai and I have always had a special feeling for Mumbai. I would also like to give something back to Indian football which has given us (Beto and me) a lot," he remarked.
"The joint venture will certainly help the children who are looking to be good footballers,” he further added.
Meanwhile WIFA CEO Henry Menezes, pointed that the state association has always believed in teaming up with the best.
"Our soccer school has always been associated with the best academies. Earlier it had a tie-up with Manchester United and now it is great to be associated with the BFA. Both Barretto and Beto know the pulse and philosophy of Indian football and that would be beneficial in the training methods,” he pointed out.
The Indian Football Schools is managed by the same team and coaching staff that successfully ran the Manchester United Soccer Schools programs across India over the last 3 years. On the other hand, the Brasil Futebol Academia (BFA) is run by trained Brazilian and Indian coaches and as a way of giving back to Indian Football, the Academy provides all of its services free of cost to the kids.
