Officials from the Spanish Club were present as the name of the new kid in Indian football was announced in a gala event.
The Kolkata franchise of the proposed Indian Super League (ISL) became the first outfit to be unveiled as its name was announced as 'Atletico de Kolkata' in a press conference held in the home city today.

Mr. Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the owner of Atlético de Madrid launched the team brand alongwith the four other co-owners of Atlético de Kolkata viz. Sourav Ganguly, Sanjiv Goenka, Harshavardhan Neotia, and Utsav Parekh.

Though the name of the team has been announced, the design of their kit is yet to be decided upon. The franchise is also having talks with the IMG-Reliance about the policy of hiring coaches and players.

"Our desire is that the main coach will be someone who has worked with Atletico. Once Atletico approves someone, we will then send it over to ISL for approval. We have asked Atletico to send their team to play a friendly match sometime in India and they have agreed," Neotia informed the media.

The much anticipated league is expected to kick off in September this year.
