The Goan coach was pleased that his side could manage to earn a point away from home against the Red and Gold of Kolkata…
Churchill Brothers held East Bengal to a 0-0 draw in an I-League encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium on Tuesday.
Coach Mariano Dias refused to be drawn into comparing the performance against East Bengal to the one dished out by the team at the Federation Cup which they won by winning all their five matches. It must be noted that Subhas Bhowmick, the technical director, wasn’t part of the team during the Federation Cup and has returned in time for the I-League to resume his role.
“Please don't ask me this question. I can't answer,” he blurted.
Speaking on the game, Dias mentioned that East Bengal was a top side and a point isn’t a bad result.
“Every match is not the same, every time. Actually we didn't play our normal game to be honest and we lacked penetration in the opponent’s third. There were no attempts to open the goal at all.
“East Bengal is one of the best teams in India as far as the players are concerned. If you look at the players, they are certainly in the top few.”
He rued the missed chances but added that at times the decision making tends to be erroneous.
“Every point is important for me. It's football again and sometimes you fail to make decisions in passing and scoring.”
