thumbnail Hello,

The Blue Tigers will be back in action in March as they look set to face the Bengal Tigers…

India are expected to play Bangladesh in an international friendly to be held on March 5th. The match is most likely to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa.

Bangladesh are ranked 164, eight places below India in the latest FIFA rankings. It must be noted that the All India Football Federation (AIFF), on coach Wim Koevermans’ directive, were keen to play a higher ranked side but most of them weren’t available on the said date.

The last time these two sides met was in the SAFF Championship last year in Nepal in the group stages, a tie which ended in a 1-1 draw.

While Maldives had shown an interest, they wanted to play in the third week of March which wasn’t acceptable to the AIFF who wanted to play on the designated date for international friendlies.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) have accepted India’s invitation to play but have suggested a preference to play in eastern India as opposed to Goa.

The final decision on the venue is expected to be announced in the next couple of days.
