Top and Flop: Churchill Brothers SC 1-3 Bengaluru FC

A goal from Sean Rooney and two from Sunil Chhetri were enough to earn three away points for the Steelmen
Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.

Sunil Chhetri consistently got the better of Churchill right-back Denzil Franco in their aerial duels, even though the defender has a height advantage. It took a while for the Bengaluru FC skipper to get in the right spaces but once he found his rhythm there was no stopping him.

The 29-year-old was dynamic down the left flank and set-up Sean Rooney who scored the opener in the 50th minute, before Chhetri got his own name on the scoresheet against his former side in the 64th minute when he tapped in a Thoi Singh cross. He was replaced in the 85th minute to soak in the applause from the fans after completing his brace in the 77th minute.

While Lenny Rodrigues has been out of form lately, possibly due to fatigue as he was away with the national team during the I-League break last month, Micky Fernandes was brought in to aid the midfield. Fernandes however was unable to orchestrate the game for the Red Machines who lacked creativity going forward.
