The Red Machines grabbed their first win of the season after 10 matches with a winner that was scored right at the death...Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.
|TOP: ABDELHAMID SHABANA
The Egyptian midfielder instinctively converted the first chance of the match from a cross played to him by Balwant Singh from the right. He was part of all the attacks launched by the Red Machines in the first half and even won the ball on a few occasions with his pressing up the park.
Although he wasn't as effective in the second half that was dominated by Sporting Clube de Goa, Shabana created a host of other chances in the first half for team-mates Denzil Franco and Balwant Singh while being denied another goal due to a foul committed.
|FLOP: CAJETAN FERNANDES
Cajetan Fernandes wasted a golden opportunity in the sixth minute by literally passing the ball to the Churchill defense instead of having a go at goal. He didn't combine with his team-mates and was replaced at half-time.
