Katsumi Yusa: The pressure at Mohun Bagan is good

The Japanese midfielder believes that the success of their arch rivals doesn’t really affect his side…

Katsumi Yusa has been the marquee signing for Mohun Bagan last summer. Since then the player has impressed in patches with the missed penalty against Bengaluru FC leaving a botched mark.

The player remains unflustered despite his team not having garnered full points in their opening two away fixtures. However Yusa remains confident that the tide would change soon.

“ONGC were an office team while Mohun Bagan are the national club of India. It’s different in the sense that you have more supporters and media attention.  There is pressure but that is good for the players. I am a foreigner and we get big money at the club which is good for my family. Hence I have to concentrate on every match and practice sessions. Gradually we, as a team, will get more confidence after our first win. Once we improve only then we can do better,” he told Goal.

Bagan next face the Pune FC challenge in what is their third straight away fixture. Yusa isn’t too concerned about the same and backed his side to come good against the Red Lizards on Thursday.

“Pune FC is an excellent team with good professional management. Arata Izumi is my good friend and we talk regularly,” he said but was quick to add, “I respect Pune FC but not too much also as we are also a big club.”

East Bengal have had a good start to the season as they have made it into the semi-finals of the AFC Cup. Does the success of their rival add more pressure on the shoulders of Bagan squad and Yusa’s response was, “No pressure on us because East Bengal is East Bengal, Mohun Bagan is Mohun Bagan.”
