thumbnail Hello,

The Nigerian injured his ankle in the Durand Cup and is trying to make a speedy recovery, while the players express their displeasure at coach Moshood...

Mohammedan Sporting’s I-League campaign didn’t exactly get-off on the right foot after being thrashed 3-1 by Pune FC. What added to their woes was the absence of playmaker Penn Orji, who was brought in to be the plunderer-in-chief of the opposition.

Orji had suffered the ankle injury in the Durand Cup and now coach Abdul Aziz has now confirmed that his club are waiting with baited breath to see if Penn can make it for their next I-League bout against Salgaocar on the 6th of October.

“Penn’s not yet 100 per cent fit, but is recovering gradually. We are hoping for the best,” elucidated Moshood to The Telegraph after a practice session at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, where Penn had been present, but unable to take part in any training.

Another brimming issue Moshood will need to supress is the dissatisfaction shown by players when he arrived 40 minutes late for training.

“If we are late in arriving, we are fined. Now that the coach himself is late, why shouldn’t he be fined too?” questioned a peeved player.

The coach though, brought some honesty and sense to his defence and agreeing with the player replied, “The roads were congested. That’s why I couldn’t reach in time. But I too agree that rules should be the same for everyone.”
