AIFF to step up hunt to fill important vacancies in the management

Positions such as Technical Director and the Under-23 coach’s jobs remain vacant with no personnel finalized for the posts...

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been strung into a race to fill the positions of Technical Director (TD) of the Indian national football team and the Under-23 coach’s position by the year-end.

Dutchman Rob Baan, the current TD, has decided to relinquish the post he has held since 2011, citing personal and health reasons. It has been widely reported by Goal that Baan had suffered a heart-attack while conducting a Pro-License coach in Mumbai and has been back in the Netherlands recuperating.

“It’s not just that Baan is unwell. He has other personal issues, too,” AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das, who arrived in Kathmandu to attend a South Asian Football Federation executive body meet, informed The Times of India.

Baan will however return, in October, to conduct a 'B' License coaching course and will hand over the reins to a new soul effectively ending his association with the AIFF and Indian Football.

“We will be advertising the posts soon. The good thing about the technical director’s position is that Baan has already prepared a road map,” expounded Das, referring to a AIFF’s special vision document, heralded ‘Lakshya’.

Another post that requires immediate attention is the post of the Under 23 coach’s job. The AIFF have been out on one leg, following the decision of Arthur Papas, a surety to take over the post, in joining Dempo Sports Club instead. The AIFF’s struggles to find a suitable replacement for the post have been well documented.

Now a Bhaichung Bhutia-chaired AIFF technical committee has been swapped the responsibility to appoint a man for the post. The body will hold its first meeting in the coming few weeks.

“We wanted to call the technical committee meeting earlier, but later decided to hold it after the SAFF Championship. The committee must take important calls on the road map for Indian football, the under-23 coach and India’s preparations for the AFC Challenge Cup in 2015,” explained Das.
