A crucial meeting between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and its commercial partners IMG-Reliance is set to kick off today with the motif expected to be centred around the partners’ progress on establishing a foundation for the proposed league to be held next year.
The proposed league is expected to kick off from the 15th of January 2014, and will be played out till the 30th of March, with eight city based franchise teams.
A host of I-League clubs have differed on their support to this proposed league by IMG-Reliance, bashing it as unnecessary and intangible to football’s progress in India. Now with not enough local players being roped in, their plans could come a cropper.
The commercial partners are expected to hold the bidding for franchisees in September and the teams would kick-start their preparations by the end of October for the said tournament. The 37 players IMG-Reliance have signed are set to begin their pre-season training later this week with former East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan being the supervisor.
According to sources close to Goal, the first match is likely to be held in Mumbai with three cities being lined-up to host the final.
