The north eastern state is set to witness some of the finest footballing talent in the country later this month...

In a bid to promote football in the north east, Football Players Association of India (FPAI) are set to play an exhition game at Imphal later this month.

The match will be promoted by the Manipur Development Society (MDS) while FootballEdge will be organising the event and match day proceedings.

Gouramangi Moirangthem said, "I am looking forward to the match. It is always a honour to play in front of the home crowd and I am glad this opportunity has come about so there is no way I would miss it. A great initiative from the MDS who is already conducting a coaching camp for young promising players in the state."

"Also The Football Edge is always looking to promote football in areas which dont see much I-League action or International Football. It will be a good match but at the same time the mood should be festive as it will be the first time teams mate from the Indian team and across I-League clubs will be seen in action in Imphal and I hope they will enjoy the day out in my state."

Cyrus Confectioner, general manager of FPAI, believes that such initiatives will go a long way in harnessing the interest for football in the north east.

"Northeast is indeed a breeding ground for budding footballers. in fact it always has been. At present Milo Vanovic, a Coach with proven credentials has taken over from Steve Darby, who had to leave due to personal commitments after a month of coaching youngsters in Manipur. The Manipur Development Society is serious about the Sport and had taken this coaching initiative, to improve the standard of its football."

"To cap of this coaching initiative, Football Edge, a Company devoted to the cause of furthering football, will be organizing a match there on June 30th, between a Manipur XI and an FPAI XI. Top Indian players will be seen in action and the local populace along with the youngsters will get an opportunity to rub shoulders with them. The organizers have said that this will be serious football with a fun filled atmosphere"

Manipur XI will feature: Gouramangi Moirangthem, Renedy Singh, Sushil Singh, Naoba Singh, Chitrasen and many others.

FPAI XI will feature: Bhaichung Bhutia, Syed Rahim Nabi, Subhasish Roy Chowdhury, Dharmaraj Ravanan, Subrata Paul, Nirmal Chettri, Sanju Pradhan and many others. The FPAI XI is also trying to get down players from Goa for the match and it will be the first time that players like Steven Dias, Samir Naik, Climax Lawrence, Clifford Miranda would play in Imphal.
