The Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI) awards were handed out in a gala ceremony in Mumbai on Thursday night. A number of Bollywood celebrities along with the Indian football fraternity graced the occasion.

Alwyn George, the young attacking midfielder from Pailan Arrows bagged the “Young Player of the Year” award for the recently concluded season.

The Arrows youngster has been brilliant throughout the last year, chipping in with stellar performances whenever his team needed it the most. He also made his debut for the National team this year.

The young playmaker was ecstatic to win the prestigious award and said that he would try his best to win the award a second time in the future.

“Yes, I am very happy. It’s a proud moment for me. I am winning the award for the first time. In the future, I will try to better my performance and come up on this stage again.”

He also mentioned that it has been a great outing for him in the last edition of I-League.

“It’s been a great journey. I played with so many junior players. Playing for Pailan also gave me the much-needed exposure. I have also shared with them my experiences of playing for the National team. All in all, it was a satisfactory season."

The Indian international was all praises for Arthur Papas, the coach of Pailan Arrows in the last season.

“I have learned many a thing from him. He has been a great guide and has helped me on and off the field whenever I faced any problem. I look forward to having him again as my coach sometime in future.”

Alwyn informed that there has been no talks about any possible transfers this season.  He has a year left on his contract. The U-22 India star did say that he would try engineer a move to the team which would be coached by his mentor, Arthur Papas.
