Chinese Taipei 2-1 India: Barua’s side succumb to second consecutive defeat

Despite a valiant effort, the Indian contingent failed to register their first victory as they suffered yet another loss…

Chinese Taipei downed India 2-1 at the Faisal Al Huseni Stadium in West Bank on Thursday in a group D encounter of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

After the two rounds of games, India remain without a point while Chinese Taipei are on six points. Yu Hsiu Chin and Lai Li Chin scored either side of a fine set-piece equaliser from Sasmita Malik in the 53rd minute to secure the win for Taipei.

It was India who started the game better as the opposition wasn’t given a lot of space to work around. Ashalata Devi made a crucial block in the eighth minute to keep Hsiu Chin’s powerful attempt at bay.

However they did eventually find a breakthrough before the half time through Hsiu Chin. AnadiBarua switched the formation to a 5-4-1 in the second half and it paid dividends. Bembem Devi’s low drive from just outside the box kissed the crossbar on its way out.

Sasmita scored the equalizer with a gem of a free-kick in the 53rd minute which didn’t give goalkeeper Cheng Ssu Yu any chance whatsoever.

However Li Chin scored in the 62nd minute which eventually turned out to be the difference between the two sides.
