In their bid to speed up the process of launching football's IPL early next year, a committee has been formed which is scheduled to meet next week...
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and their marketing and commercial partners, IMG-Reliance have formed a new league committee which shall settle all forms required by any Regulations in the technical conduct of this Competition and to set out where applicable, duties and powers thereof.
The committee is scheduled to meet on 21st of this month with the AIFF being represented by its president – Praful Patel, general secretary – Kushal Das and the CEO of the I-League – Sunando Dhar.
Four members from IMG-Reliance are part of this committee. Jefferson Slack, the senior vice-president of IMG’s global business development of the football division and Ashu Jindal, the Chief Operating Officer at IMG-Reliance are amongst the notable names.
It is reliably learnt by Goal that IMG-Reliance have assigned an agency to sign players, who are out of contracts at the end of this season, for their new league and do plan to loan them out to the I-League clubs.
Arshad Hussain in a new role
Arshad Hussain, former Mahindra United and Mumbai assistant coach, too is believed to be part of this project.
Meanwhile, it is understood that the clubs had decided last month under the I-League Professional Football Clubs Association (IPFCA) banner not let sign any player who asks for a two-month leave for the new league.
However with several clubs from Kolkata facing a cash crunch, they are likely to accept the mooted proposal of letting their players join the franchisees of the new league. It seems the players are going to benefit the most as they stand a chance to earn from the I-League clubs as well as an exorbitant sum from the new teams of the proposed new league.
