A major boost to India's chances of hosting the U-17 World Cup in 2017...
India’s bid to host the U-17 World Cup got a shot in the arm when the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) gave its green signal.
"We've received the clearance from the PMO and will now prepare a Cabinet Note for their approval. We're committed to India getting the hosting rights for the 2017 U-17 World Cup and this is a major step in that regard," sports secretary P K Deb told The Indian Express.
The bidding timeline is as follows:
|15 May 2013||Declaration of Interest - deadline for the member associations to declare their interest in hosting by submitting the completed and signed Declaration of Interest form|
|31 May 2013||FIFA Hosting Agreements - deadline for FIFA to send out the corresponding Hosting Agreements to those associations who have declared an interest|
|15 July 2013||Terms and Conditions - deadline for the member associations to reconfirm their interest in bidding by submitting the signed Terms and Conditions|
|15 November 2013||Hosting Agreement with the complete Bid Book - deadline for the member associations to submit the signed Hosting Agreements together with their complete Bid Packages|
|December 2013||Appointment of hosts by the FIFA Executive Committee|
FIFA have invited bids for the U-17 World Cup last month and are to decide on the hosts by December this year. This has been a setback for the Indian FA who were hoping to get the chance to host the tournament on the back of having signed the ten year agreement with the governing body for world football.
"I'm glad that the government is moving fast to get this done. Hosting the U-17 World Cup will be a game-changer for Indian football," Das said.
"If we can speed up the process now and get Cabinet's approval quickly, then we can table the bid during the meeting this month. Else, we'll have to wait at least till September," Das said.
