The top two teams from the Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore legs competed in the national finals on Sunday.The Budweiser 6v6 Cup 2013 has successfully run its course in India. Following separate legs in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore which were conducted last month, the top two teams from each of the three cities met in the nation's capital to compete for the national prize.
The winners of the Delhi and Mumbai legs, Arancia FC and WNS Global Services were drawn in Group A along with the runners-up of the Bangalore leg, Cunning Stunts. Meanwhile, the runners-up of the Delhi and Mumbai legs, SPG FC and Tiger Sports were joined by the winners of the Bangalore leg, Joga Bonito in Group B.
The tournament was played in a league format starting with group stages after which the second round involved teams from both groups facing each other and then depending upon their points tally in the overall league table, four of the six sides advanced to the semi-finals.
After some entertaining group encouters, where all three sides in each group faced each other once, Arancia FC emerged as the winners of Group A with Cunning Stunts coming in second and WNS Global Services finishing third. From Group B, Tiger Sports claimed first place with SPG FC and Joga Bonito following in second and third.
In the next round, the winners from each group were made to face the bottom side from the other while the second-placed teams squared off against each other. Tiger Sports beat WNS Global 3-0, SPG FC beat Cunning Stunts 1-0 and Joga Bonito defeated Arancia FC 1-0.
As per the league standings, Cunning Stunts and WNS Global Services finished in the bottom two spots and were eliminated. SPG FC beat Tigers Sports 1-0 in the first semi-final while Arancia FC won the second semi-final against Joga Bonito 3-0.
In the finals, SPG FC ran out 4-2 winners over Arancia FC to lift the trophy. Tushnik Thakur bagged a brace for the winners while Stanzim Sonam and Rahul Bhardwaj scored one each. Abhinav Grover scored both goals for the runners-up and also finished as top scorer in the tournament with a tally of 5 goals. The awards for Best Player and Best Goalkeeper went to Anmal epil Samad and Pulkit Mehta respectively, both of whom were from SPG FC.
Having been crowned Budweiser India 2013 champions, SPG FC will be rewarded with a trip to London to represent India in the global Budweiser 6v6 Cup finals while also enjoying the comforts of being professional footballers which include first-class hotel accommodations and tickets to the 2013 FA Cup Finals.
