Bhaichung appointed head of AIFF Technical Committee - report
The former East Bengal and Mohun Bagan man has made his first foray into administration in a decision taken by Indian FA President Praful Patel....
In a decision that would go down well with the country, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has appointed former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia as the head of the AIFF Technical Committee. The Sikkimese Sniper who retired from football in 2011 was given the post by AIFF President Praful Patel.
“He is becoming chairman of the technical committee. The decision was taken by president Praful Patel. Normally, any committee or head of it is formed with the concurrence of the president,” AIFF's senior vice-president Subrata Dutta said to The Times of India.
It is rumoured that Bhutia’s appointment to the post came during the last Executive Committee meeting of the AIFF. However the former Bury FC player confirmed to The Times of India that he is yet to receive anything in writing from the AIFF.
Bhaichung’s elevation to the post would mean that incumbent technical director Mohammed Habib would have to make way. Besides Habib, the technical committee consists of other former players Inder Singh and Pradip Chowdhury. Habib was in the news last year for accusing the AIFF of making the technical committee defunct.
