WIFA CEO Henry Menezes gives a fresh status about the 100 Crore partnership between SPAL and WIFA, while revealing the schedule for the Mahayudh and Rovers Cup...
Sporting Ace Private Limited (SAPL) CEO Kingshuk Gupta reportedly resigned from his post on Thursday and with that, there have been doubts raised over the partnership between SAPL and Western India Football Association (WIFA) to develop football in Maharashtra.
It must be remembered that, The Western Indian Football Association (Wifa) has signed a landmark Rs 1 billion partnership with Sporting Ace Private Limited (SAPL) to promote the sport at the grassroots level in Maharastra.
“SAPL has gone under a financial turbulence that is definitely known but our fee, that we take for giving them the property of Mahayudh has been delivered to us in advance,” stated WIFA CEO Henry Menezes, when quizzed about the status of their alliance with SAPL.
“So now (for) next year, we will come to know only in May. As of now, we have received funds for (this) year. There is turbulence but we cannot forcefully say that this company is backing out, because there are lot of turbulences in other sponsorship deals also,” he added.
Menezes is confident of the partnership of WIFA with SAPL
“So there is a issue there, but in the first year, we’ve received our fees and what happens in the second year, we will have to wait and watch. And if there is any problem, we will work out another solution.”
As far as the tournaments organised by WIFA, the Mahayudh and the Rovers Cup are concerned, which are scheduled to be held at the Cooperage from July 27th and August 11th this year, Menezes quips, “I think our properties are good enough (the Rovers Cup and Mahayudh) and someone or (the) other might pick it up (in case of problems)“
“We’re not just worried about the continuity of things, this is not the end for us. But definitely right now we’re giving them the chance (of doubt) that by this month end, things might be improving and there could be a revival. So we’re not at fault right now, we’ve received our fees and what will happen for the next year, I cannot tell you right know” concluded Menezes.
