IFFHS is an organisation that specialises in collating statistical data on global football and receives support and recognition from FIFA. For the period from March 1, 2012 to February 28, 2013, the Red and Gold ranked 447th in the world, sharing the spot with the likes of AS FAR Rabat of Morocco, St. Mirren FC Paisley of Scotland, Omiya Ardija Saitama of Japan, Budapest Honved FC of Hungary and CD Aurora Cochabamba of Bolivia.
Chelsea are the number one ranked team in the world, with Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Corinthians taking the second to fourth spots while Spanish giants Barcelona are placed fifth. Boca Juniors, Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and Sao Paolo complete the top 10.
The standings are determined by a points system with domestic leagues and cups receiving two and four points for a draw and a win respectively while regional and international competitions received a higher proportion of points.
Current Premier League leaders Manchester United only rank 19th in the standings, on par with Celtic of Scotland and Club Libertad of Paraguay, while reigning English champions, Manchester City are 56th, a spot they share with another Paraguayan club, FBC Olimpia.
Liverpool (25), Tottenham (37), Arsenal (50), and Newcastle (65) are the other English clubs that feature in the top 100.
