Indian national team coach Wim Koevermans was happy to see Sunil Chhetri back playing regularly, after the striker completed a move back to Churchill Brothers, following an underwhelming spell with Sporting Clube de Portugal ‘B’ side, where he barely featured.
Koevermans commented, “It is always important to play games and for Sunil it is important he plays more. He needs to play matches. I think he had a great experience (in Portugal), I can’t talk for him and why he made the decision but he went to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
"He got to see the whole set-up of how they play and train but as a footballer you want to play games.”
He did not however feel that Chhetri’s experience should prevent others from going abroad and stated, “If they (Indian players) can play in a very good competition, then they can learn a lot from that. We have so many players in Asia playing everywhere and it is a good opportunity and if you are sure you can play in a big league, why not.”
