thumbnail Hello,

The Indian FA president has warned the Mariners not to breach the I-League rules and regulations in future...

Praful Patel, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) president, stated that any club found to be defying the I-League rules and regulations will be dealt with strictly and it is probably for the last time that the Indian FA have reduced the quantum of punishment.

"This is a first and last in Indian football. The committee does not mean that we found any merit (in Mohun Bagan's plea). We have only reduced the quantum of the punishment,” said Patel.

The I-League Core Committee had last month imposed a ban, apart from withdrawing them from the current campaign, on Mohun Bagan from participating in the I-League for two years after they were found guilty of breaching the Section 22 of the league’s regulations after they failed to turn up for the second half action against East Bengal on December 9, 2012. This was after Syed Rahim Nabi was struck by a missile from the stands and the Mariners deemed the security as inadequate.

Bagan had appealed to the AIFF Executive Committee asking them to review the ban and let them come back into the nation’s top division league.

"The executive committee, after due deliberation, Mohun Bagan will be continue to play in the current season, but they will lose all the 12 points they have earned so far in the league. They will start with zero points and will have to pay Rs 2 crore as compensation," Patel was quoted saying.

"There is a panel provision under which the quantum of damage can be decided by the executive committee. We have also asked them to provide an undertaking that they will never again breach the rules or get involved in an act of indiscipline," Patel said.

In addition to this, Patel assured that rules which have several loopholes in the Indian FA Constitution will be looked into and amended thereafter.
