Three Salgaocar FC youth players to join ASD Cape Town Academy in January

After Brandon Fernandes has made it big at ASD Cape Town, three more Salgaocar youngsters have been handed with trials at the academy in South Africa...
Three Salgaocar FC youth players, namely Myron Mendes, Aldrich Coelho and Klins Mendes, have been selected for a one-month trial by ASD Cape Town, a South African Football Academy which hit the headlines in India with Brandon Fernandes who went on to have trials at Reading and Leicester City. If the said players do make the cut, they would be enrolled on a three-year training regime which is also likely to include a scholarship programme.

Myron Mendes

"I am very happy. So much that I cannot explain," said the 16-year-old who was part of the India U-16 team that made it to the final phase of the AFC U-16 Championship.

The right-back was also part of the 16-member squad who were sponsored a trip USA to train at the IMG Soccer Academy at Florida for nine months.

Aldrich Coelho

"It's a good feeling. I'd like to go in hopes of becoming a better footballer. I'm sure there will be good facilities," said the excited youngster.

The striker has won the Manchester United U-15 All India finals with Salgaocar and represented the Goan club at the Manchester United Premier Cup (MUPC) Internationals in Thailand where they finished as semi-finalists.

Klins Mendes

"It's a good chance for me as not many boys get an opportunity of this kind to prove yourself. I'm looking forward and will give my best," said Klins.

The central midfielder had traveled with Colin Toal's India U-16 side on a training trip to Dubai ahead of the final phase of the AFC U-16 tournament earlier this year but didn't make the final squad back then.

The club president Mr. Shivanand Salgaocar also congratulated the trio while stressing on the objective of Salgaocar's Youth Development Programme.

“I am happy that our Youth Development Programme is meeting its objective of nourishing local talent and providing the boys with opportunities, whether it be international exposure, prospects with the national team or graduating into the senior teams of I-League clubs," he said. "Congratulations to Myron, Aldrich and Klins – this is a great opportunity for them. I’m sure that this is only the beginning of many good things to come.”
