Karim Bencherifa takes over as coach of Mohun Bagan

Karim Bencherifa set the bar high on his return to the hot seat at Mohun Bagan, as he said his main aim would be to regain the I-League title.
The Moroccan, who was able to join the Mariners after serving out his notice period at Salgaocar, said, "I am very happy to be back with Mohun Bagan. It's a new challenge and I am very comfortable in taking up challenges."
"I know the responsibility on my shoulder. Hopefully this will be a great season for Mohun Bagan again. We are now four points behind the league leader. It's not a big gap. Moreover, I league title is decided mostly on the performance in the second stage of the league," Bencherifa added.
Mohun Bagan’s fans shall hope he is able to recreate the magic of his spell at Salgaocar FC, with whom he won the I-League and Federation Cup.
In his first spell with the Kolkatan outfit, Bencherifa had won the Federation Cup as well as the Calcutta Premier League, and the Mariners have gone trophyless since the Moroccan was relieved of his duties 33 months. Their best finish of second in the I-League also came under Bencherifa.
The former Salgaocar coach immediately highlighted the fitness levels of the players as one of the things that he would work on, though he felt the squad had great quality and hinted it might be easier for him to get results with the Kolkatan club, compared to Salgaocar.
"I had to motivate the Salgaocar players a lot. The squad here has a lot of quality."
Asked about the reason for leaving Salgaocar, Karim said that after they lost their I-League match against United Sikkim on October 7th, he decided to quit as he felt he and the club were no longer the right combination.
Giving out some details about the availability of Australian striker Tolgey Ozbey, Bencherifa said he was injured and is in the process of rehabilitation.
