In a swift response to the 10-1 thrashing handed out to United Sikkim by Prayag United SC, Phillipe De Ridder has been discharged of all player related responsibilities as the coach of the senior squad.
In his new designation as the football director of the club, he shall handle administrative aspects of the side, but will no longer be in-charge of the first team.
With assistant coach Syed Altaf Fudden Ahmed being sacked by the club, Bhaichung Bhutia, who was suspended for the clash against the Kolkatan side, has been named as the interim coach while the hunt for the right candidate to takeover on a permanent basis continues.
De Ridder had appeared bullish in the post match conference after the game against Prayag United, as he had refused to even consider resigning, pointing towards the steady start made by the club this season.
The writing though, seemed to be on the wall for the Belgian coach, when Bhaichung Bhutia, United Sikkim’s co-owner communicated to fans through the club’s official Facebook page that it was difficult for him to swallow the 10-1 humiliation meted out by Prayag United, soon after the match.
The Snow Lions are presently practicing in Kolkata, from where they shall leave for Goa on 15th November, in the build-up to their clash on 18th November against Sporting Clube de Goa.
