Brandon Fernandes’ representatives have denied that he has received an offer worth $1m from Reading FC.
With reports of the 19-year-old, currently on trial with Leicester City, being on the verge of joining Reading FC, ASD Cape Town, a South African academy where Brandon has been training for the past two years or so, have vehemently rebuffed claims that the Premier League club has made an offer in the first place.
“Reports that Reading Football Club have made a concrete offer for Brandon Fernandes are completely untrue. Any publication that runs with them is actually compromising Brandon's prospects and any negotiations that may be taking place. We ask you to kindly remember this and support us in protecting Brandon from irresponsible rumour,” said Susanna Steptoe, marketing director, ASD Cape Town.
The youngster trained with the Reading U-21 squad and played one practice game behind closed doors where he assisted two of the three goals scored.
"It is a great honour to have had a trial with Reading and [if a deal can be reached] I will be very happy to play for them. I have been training with the club's under-21s which is a good experience. I think that if I want to move to England I need to match their players physically," Brandon was quoted saying to ESPN STAR.
However Brandon's agent has categorically denied the existence of any offer made as yet.
“There is no truth in this and we haven’t got any offer yet. Perhaps he (Brandon) misunderstood the question,” John Steptoe, the player’s agent, told Goal.com.
Brandon’s father, Jaju Fernandes, remained in the dark about the supposed offer from Reading and mentioned that his son never informed him of the same.
“Brandon calls us daily before going to train. I got a call from him today as well and he didn’t say anything about a deal with Reading,” Fernandes informed Goal.com.
“He is on trial with Leicester City for now. Reading called him to England for trials and Brandon told us that he did well. In addition, I am in touch with ASD Cape Town representatives and they haven’t told me of any offer as yet too,” he added.
