Salgaocar FC’s latest import from Down Under spoke about his decision to join the current Federation Cup champions

Australian striker Sean Rooney is impressed with Salgaocar FC as he hailed the Indian outfit’s professionalism.

Having joined the Goan side last month, Rooney believes that Salgaocar have the right mindset to challenge for top honours.

“It's been a great experience so far. They are thoroughly professional, have got a good management, good infrastructure, a good squad and they've taken care of me,” Rooney told Goal.com.

“I expect us to win trophies this season. We've had a good pre-season and will be playing in the Federation Cup soon. So I expect us to pick up silverware. I am raring to go and score as many goals to help the team win,” he added.

On being asked as to what prompted him to join the former I-League champions, Rooney mentioned of his desire to experience a new challenge.

“I was back at my hometown when the offer to play in India came my way. I decided to sign up as it's a new place and it would be a new experience, hopefully a great one,” said Rooney.

The 23 year old plied his trade earlier in Australia’s A-League however he failed to make the most of the opportunity provided.

“When I played in the A-League for some time, I had to contend with injuries,” said the former Newcastle Jets striker.

Rooney didn't enjoy his stint in Indonesia

“I had a bad experience in Indonesia with the club (Deltras FC) as they had problems regarding payments,” he remarked.

Former A-League Player of the Year Carlos Hernandez has joined Prayag United ‘s roster this season and Rooney praised the Costa Rican striker’s abilities.

“I played against him during my time at Newcastle Jets. He was a good player then and Prayag have a decent signing on their hands,” was his assessment of the 30 year old.

The former Sydney FC youth player is itching to play in the first major tournament in India in the form of Federation Cup.

“I'm really looking forward to it. This will be my first major tournament with Salgaocar and that too as defending champions. So I really hope to do well for the club in the tournament,” signed off Rooney.
