In the 2012 SAFF Women's Cup held in Sri Lanka, after a 3-0 mauling of Bangladesh, the Indian women's team thrashed the hosts 5-0...
In their second match of the 2012 SAFF Women's Championship in Sri Lanka, the Indian team thrashed the hapless islanders by five goals. Parmeshwari Devi scored a brace (50', 65') while Suprava Samal (16') , Rina Roy (22') and Pinky Bompal (52') were the other ladies on the scoresheet. In response, the Lankan team was clueless and the Indian custodian was rarely troubled, ending with a clean sheet.
India are placed in Group A of the inaugural Women's SAFF Championship, with Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka making up the other teams. In their very first match itself, the highest ranked side of the tournament had sent out a signal by thrashing Bangladesh 3-0 and continued their form into the second match against the hosts.
In a lopsided encounter, India took the lead through Suparva Samal in the 16th minute. Then just six minutes later, Rina Roy doubled the advantage. Even though India had more chances to increase the gap, they went into the break 2-0 up.
The second half was a similar story as India gave the hosts no time to settle, getting into their stride immediately. Parmeshwari Devi scored in the 50th minute and also in the 65th minute, with Pinky Bompal adding another in between in the 52nd minute.
India are next up against Bhutan and with Sri Lanka having already trounced Bhutan 4-0, it is clear that another dominating victory for the Ladies in blue is on the cards, as India have all but sealed their semi-final place.
