The patron of Churchill Brothers SC heaped praise on the Dutch coach and believes that the national team is in safe hands...
Churchill Alemao, the patron of Churchill Brothers SC, hailed India’s performance against Cameroon in the Nehru Cup finals where they beat them 7-6 (5-4 on pen) on Sunday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi.
Although the African nation was not at its full strength with only home-based players from their local league and the fact that the matches against them wouldn’t count as an official game; meaning it wouldn’t translate into India gaining FIFA points which shall aid in their ranking, Alemao still credits the national team for putting on a show for the fans.
“Cameroon did not field their top national side but they were a top quality opposition. India showed that we could stand up to them,” Alemao to The Herald.
He further praised India coach Wim Koevermans and added that his ‘pass-and-move’ style of football shall only benefit the country in the longer run.
“It is an upcoming, promising team and there is bright hope for Indian football if we persist with the strategy adopted by the coach,” he added.
