thumbnail Hello,

The Indian national team skipper came on for the reserve side for the final few minutes as his side trailed 2-1…

Sunil Chhetri, who turns 28 today, made an appearance for Sporting CP’s ‘B’ side on Thursday evening at Rio Maior Municipal Stadium against Academica de Coimbra which they lost 2-1.

It was the Lions who took the lead in the 12th minute through Bruma but two second half goals though Carlos Saleiro in the 65th minute and a penalty from Edinho seven minutes from the final whistle sealed the victory for Academica, who are the holders of the Portuguese Cup.

Chhetri was called upon after Sporting had conceded the second goal hoping that they could restore parity towards the death but that wasn’t to be. Patinho had a brilliant chance but saw his effort go wide, which did break the hearts of the assembled Sporting fans.

Oceano Cruz, the Sporting CP ‘B’ side coach, believed that his side had performed well .

"The team did well and made a great game. Only the result was worth it. There is much work done here by the players, who deserved the victory,” Cuz told Ball TV.
