The Moroccan coach believes that it is vital for every coach in the league to help develop players which is essential for the long term growth of players in the country…
Karim Bencherifa’s time in Indian football suggests that he has loved the opportunity to work with youngsters and help them realize their potential. Whether it was to make Churchill Brothers one of the most fearsome side in the league with some top talent from north east states, or at Mohun Bagan where he helped players like Manish Maithani, Biswajit Saha and others to make their mark. His stint at Salgaocar SC has been no different as he has helped unearth players like Francis Fernandes, Gilbert Oliviera and also restored confidence in players like Tomba Singh, whom not many backed after his knee injuries.
For the upcoming season as well, Bencherifa is looking forward to develop some of the untapped talent available in his young squad and thus help them make the cut for the national squad.
“My target is to promote the raw talent, and help them make a name for themselves. Take for example, Gilbert Oliviera. He made a name for himself with his performances last season. Our target is to help these players reach the national team squad.
“My job is to help in developing the players. I believe this is the primary job of all coaches,” Bencherifa stated. “I am definitely to win trophies but it’s also important to see players who are young and fresh and help them come up,” he added.
