An € 4.5 million offer by PSV Eindhoven marked the end of a long running transfer saga, as Luciano Narsingh signed up for the Eredivisie side, having been involved in a tug of war between Dick Advocaat’s side and their rivals Ajax Amsterdam.

While the player’s Indian origins have been talked about, with 8 goals and 22 assists last season in the Eredivisie, Narsingh’s talents on the football pitch are not to be taken lightly.

A speedy winger who can play on either wing or even behind the striker, the 21 year old is a player who can create as well as score goals, as his stats from last season show.

A player whose final ball is of a similar standard as his mazy dribbles, the now former Heerenveen midfielder is the kind of attacking pacey wide man that excites the fans of the club that he plays for and is a nightmare for rival wingbacks, as his constant movement and deft touch make him a difficult player to mark.

The speed merchant has come a long way from humble beginnings, having at one point of time being released from Ajax’s famed academy, after they found him to be too lightweight for the rigours of professional football.

However the winger, whose brother Furdjel Narsingh plays for second tier club PEC Zwolle, did not give up on his dream and was picked up by Heerenveen, for whom he made his debut in 2008. It was however in the 2010-11 season that he really broke through, securing a first eleven berth for most of the season.

His electric pace saw him instantly being likened to English winger Theo Walcott, however calling the midfielder a one trick pony would be doing him a dis-service, as he has shown over the last couple of years that he has the end product to match his searing bursts of speed.

A sign of the progress Narsingh, the son of a Sikh Indian immigrant, has made over the last couple of the years was his late surge into national reckoning, which eventually saw him make the cut as one of the youngest players in Netherlands doomed Euro 2012 campaign.

The youngster will though, like to focus on the positives from the campaign, and will head into the new season, hoping to make a major impact at club level, to cement a regular place in the Dutch squad, which won’t be easy, considering the plethora of options the Oranje have out wide.

Also a couple of top seasons at PSV will help build the platform for a further step up, with all due respect to the Eredivisie side, to one of the top European clubs. He definitely has all the tools to be a top player, and playing alongside experienced professionals like Mark Van Bommel as well as having other good talented youngsters like Georginio Wijnaldum and Dries Mertens around him will definitely help take his game to another level.

With Mertens a fixture as one of the attackers and Tim Matavz likely to be the team’s centre-forward, Narsingh could occupy one of the wide berths, his chances being enhanced by the fact that PSV are looking to sell Ola Toivonen, another versatile attack minded player.

Stefan Coerts,’s Dutch football editor has this to say about Luciano Narsingh, “I initially had my doubts when Narsingh broke into the Heerenveen line-up at the expense of Roy Beerens, but he has shown last season that he fully deserved his starting berth. He was absolutely phenomenal for the Friezen in 2011-12 and played a key role in their qualification for Europa League football. He's by no means at the same level as players such as Arjen Robben and Ibrahim Afellay yet, but he's still only 21 and there's no doubt that he has a bright future ahead of him.”
