Former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia played a major role in the organisation of the match along with the Sikkim government and proceeds will go to rehabilitation from the earthquake that occurred last September.
"The Super Soccer which has been organised by the state government and pushed by Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia is commendable. The presence of these celebrities and veteran footballers shall take Sikkim`s aspiring footballers to greater heights," said Gullit to the PTI after they were beaten 7-4 by Sikkim United at the Paljor stadium.
"I am deeply privileged along with my counterparts to be a part of this event as it is for charity. We know that the funds generated from this match will reach the most under privileged. I have seen that the people of Sikkim are brave and are recovering well from the devastation last year; this is how it should be. A new beginning is what we should believe in," he added.
He also took time out to praise Lionel Messi, whom he presented the FIFA Ballon D'Or to, saying, "Messi is the greatest at the moment. He is really a special talent and who does not love him! He will of course belong to all time greatest footballers." and added that Pep Guardiola deserved praise in taking Barcelona to their current level.
He added that he would be glad to assist the development of football in India if he was offered a role.
Besides Gullit, Bhutia and actor Rahul Bose, celebrities included The Scorpions' guitarist Rudolf Schenkar, French footballer Christian Karembeu, World Motor Sports Champion Tim Tranker, Indian footballing legends Shyam Thapa and IM Vijayan and actress Neha Dhupia.
