Bhaichung Bhutia’s final game in national colours culminated in a 4-0 loss to Bayern Munich in his testimonial match held here at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, on Tuesday.
The forward spoke to the media shortly after the end of the match and expressed his gratitude to Audi for organizing this match in his honour. He stated, “I would like to thank Audi for bringing Bayern Munich to India and making them appear in my testimonial match.”

“I would also like to thank the AIFF (All India Football Federation) and everyone in the media as well for making this game memorable,” he further added.
The Sikkimese sniper also had some glowing words to say about Bayern Munich and said, “It is great that one of the top European clubs like Bayern Munich played on Indian soil. I really hope they go on and win the Champions League this time.”
He also backed Savio Medeira to lead the national team to great heights. The striker mentioned, “16 years has been a long journey and thanks to Savio (Medeira) also, we have worked together in the national team for many years.”
“He recently won the SAFF Cup and I hope he takes the national team to greater heights in the near future,” he continued.
The 35 year old was also optimistic about India’s future in football. He revealed, “India team have won the SAFF cup, so hopefully we will see more good results from the national team.”
“Thanks to Audi and the AIFF for making this match memorable. 16 years is a great journey, thanks to everyone including media,” Bhaichung concluded.-
