East Bengal beat Salgaocar SC 9-8 via the sudden death penalty shoot-out in the Super Cup match played at the Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi, on Tuesday evening.

The match endless in a goalles stalemate throughout regulation time, and with no extra time, the result had to be decided via the tie-breaker in which the Red and Gold emerged victorious.

The Kolkata unit got richer by Rs. Ten Lakh, while also managing to take revenge for losing the Federation Cup and last season's I-League title to the Goan side.

East Bengal had the better share of chances to claim a win within the 90 minutes of the game, but their strikers Robin Singh and Penn Orji weren't able to sign things off, while Alan Gow constantly kept the pressure on Salgaocar.

Gow could have himself been on the scoresheet had it not been for Salgaocar keeper Karanjit Singh who blocked a 14th minute free-kick that was on target by the Scottish play-maker.

Karanjit also did well to keep Orji's effort from entering the back of the net, a move which was again engineered by Alan Gow who had an impressive game overall.

The spot-kicks also witnessed a tie at 4-4 as Salgaocar's Jaspal Parmar and East Bengal's Ravinder Singh failed to convert.

Finally, in the sudden death, Salgaocar's Irungbham Meetei struck the post to surrender the Super Cup as East Bengal's Saikat Saha Roy scored.
