JCT football academy have clinched the I-League U-19 title after playing out a goalless draw against East Bengal junior team on Saturday.

While the senior team may have been disbanded, the U-19 team took the honours by winning the tournament on grounds of a superior goal difference.

Both teams entered the final on a winning note, JCT beating Mumbai FC 4-1 in their penultimate match, while East Bengal were the better team in their 4-3 win over Churchill Brothers SC.

Giving credit to the boys, the academy coach Jagir Singh said they have proved a point in times of adversity.

"I will request (JCT boss) Samir Thapar to at least look after the boys as they have shown that they are capable to go further. JCT can still win despite the shocking news of the seniors side. We are really happy," he said.

"The disbanding news was shocking. But I just hope that the success by the boys open a new vista for revival of the senior side of JCT," added Singh.

In the match for the third place, Mumbai FC trounced Churchill Brothers SC 4-1.
