India: Three Member Committee To Negotiate With Zee To End The Contract

The All India Football Federation's (AIFF) Executive Committee decided to form a three member sub-committee to negotiate with Zee on how to end the deal.
Subrata Dutta, Larsing Ming and Hardev Jadeja shall form the sub-committee and are also to review the proposal from IMG-Reliance for the broadcast rights which has been in the pipeline for quite sometime now.
It was back in October last year that Zee sent in a few draft proposals and asked for a review of their contract with the AIFF which is for a period of 10 years since 2005 for around Rs.274 crore. It was alleged that the broadcasters had asked for a reduction in that amount given that Indian football didn't become a marketable property which saw them going into losses.
The CEO of Zee, Puneet Goenka had approached the AIFF president for a reassessment for which a committee comprising of Alberto Colaco, A.R.Khaleel, Subrata Dutta, Larsing Ming and Hardev Jadeja was formed.
The channel were often late in their payments, which was confirmed by Patel, and the first signs of cracks appearing was when the Civil Aviation Minister lashed out at them for failing to get a sponsor for the Santosh Trophy.
It is also learnt that the channel didn't want to broadcast the friendly matches to be held in Pune unless a sponsor came in else they would have to incur losses on production, according to sources.
