Churchill Brothers Refuse To Play & Walk Off The Field In Local Tournament!
Anything can happen in Indian football...

As the scores were locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes at the Poriat Ground in Calangute, extra time was about to be played, before Churchill began protesting and questioning the officials, asking them to produce proof of the rules.
To their credit, the officials produced the official draw signed by GFA secretary Mr.Savio Messias, which stated that if normal time ends in a stalemate, 30 minutes of extra time would be played.
Churchill then took the field and extra time began, but barely two minutes later, coach Carlos Pereira called his players back, stating that they had received instructions from the 'higher authorities'.
Meanwhile, the match was a tale of two halves, as the first 45 minutes were a drab affair, with neither side playing at their best. The second half, though, saw a bit of drama, as Sporting starting playing some of their trademark attacking football, putting Churchill on the back foot, thanks largely to PIO Stanley Samuel.
However, it was Churchill who took the lead just inside the hour as Vimal Pariyar low shot was spilled tragically into his own net by Felix D'Souza. To Sporting's credit, they didn't lie down after the goal, and continued to bombard the Churchill goal, testing keeper Binu at times.
Sporting were handed a lifeline in the 66th minute as the referee adjudged Warundep Singh to have committed a handball offence inside the area. The full back was less than impressed, and his protests earned him a red card, to add insult to injury.
However, Sporting's Nicolas Rodrigues missed horrible from the spot kick, continuing his club's bad luck from the penalty spot.
Vishwas Gaonkar's side finally got their equalizer though, as Mathew Gonsalves rose highest to thump home a corner in the 81st minute to restore parity.
The match, though, could never end, and will be remembered for the incidents after regulation time. No comment has been made by the GFA on the issue as yet.
