AFC Under-19 Qualifiers: India End Campaign With A Convincing Win Against Kuwait

The Indian boys won two of their five matches…

India ended their qualifying campaign with a well deserved 3-0 victory over Kuwait in their last Group C match at Arbil, Iraq on Sunday evening.

The game was played at a very high pace in the earlier stages with both teams looking to attack.

India’s Lalrindika had the first real chance of the game in the second minute when his well taken shot was brilliantly saved by Kuwait keeper Abdul Ghafoor.

Four minutes later Colin Toal’s team took the lead when captain Jeje Lalkpekhlua cut in from the left flank and unleashed a ferocious right footed shot which found the top corner of the net.

India created more chances but only scored the second in first half injury time when Malswamfela pounced on a rebound and slotted the ball past Ghafoor after the Kuwait custodian had initially saved Milan Singh’s freekick.

Kuwait were keen to comeback in the match and so attacked from the very start of the second period.

They nearly got one back in the 47th minute when a cross from the right flank created a goalmouth scramble in the Indian box but goalie Gurpreet Sandhu cleared the danger at the right time.

Malswamfela increased India’s advantage in the 60th minute when he got on the end of a clearance from skipper Jeje and scored an intelligent goal.

That goal virtually killed the game but Kuwait still wanted to score and at one stage were playing with six players upfront.

But the Indian team did well to ensure the clean sheet and held on for an impressive win.

The win helped India finish fourth in the six team group table. Iraq and Saudi Arabia qualified for the main rounds after finishing in the top two.
