AFC U-19 Qualifiers: Oman Come From Behind To Beat India At The Death
The colts lost out to a late winner...
India made a cautious start, trying to judge their opponents, and the first chance fell to Fela, who failed to beat the Oman custodian and missed an easy scoring chance in the second minute of the match. Oman capitalized, and took an early lead in the fourth minute through Abdullah Basim.
However, the youngsters rallied, and Lalrindika (Didika) equalised for India in the 15th minute after he recieved a clearance from Jeje. Dika completed his brace in the 19th minute after he scored off a free kick from the right flank to make it 2-1 for India. Akshay Kumar Mall made it 3-1 for India in the 32nd minute after he converted on a well judged pass from Fela inside the box.
In the second half, India brought in Manandeep,Jony and Bikramjit in place of Dika (58th minute), Jeje and Milan Singh (70th minute) to bolster the midfield and forward line. However, it was to have the opposite effect.
The Omanese brought in Abdullah Ibrahim and Abdullah Saif Rashid, and were successful in pressurising the Indian defence, scoring through Khalil Ibrahim in the 70th minute to make it 3-2. Khalil Ibrahim and substitute Abdullah combined well from the left flank and Abdullah Saif made it 3-3 just five minutes later.
And Oman were to have the final say, as Abdullah Saleh was left unmarked by the Indian defenders in the dying moments, and he took full advantage by scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute of the match to give Oman a hard fought 4-3 win.
After the game, Head Coach Colin Toal said, "We could not carry on as per plan in the last 30 minutes. Saturday night's game against Saudi Arabia was tough, and took its toll on the players.
"They didn't recover in time, as today's game was at 1pm in the afternoon. It is difficult to defend against such skilful players, and even though we had our chances in the first half, we were beaten by a better team."
