The defending champions fielded their reserve side and still managed to come out trumps against Vasco Sports Club, who were a far cry from the team that notched a point against Salgaocar Sports Club in the opener.

Bryan Rodrigues, Churchill’s junior striker, stole the limelight scoring both the goals, once in each session. At first the young striker fielded as part of the mandatory two under-20 players capitalized on a defensive lapse and, when ends were changed, Bryan struck again with a fine solo effort that left many watching in appreciation.

Despite fielding their reserve side the seniors are doing duty in the Durand Cup, Churchill was definitely the better side and deserved to walk away with full points. Had Nigerian striker Felix Chimaokwu been in his elements, Vasco would have had to face more embarrassment.

In the other match of the day, Sporting Clube de Goa were held to a surprising goalless draw by Sesa Football Academy at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco.
Sesa, now trained by former Sporting Clube coach Clifford Chukwuma, almost embarrassed their more established rivals in the dying minutes of the match but Gabriel Fernandes’ stunning long ranger missed the target by an inch. Well, almost.

Sporting Clube had to play the last seven minutes with a player short as Adil Khan was injured and had to be stretchered off the field. Sporting Clube coach Roy Barreto had already finished his substitution quota when Adil could no longer continue.
