We Are Capable Of Taking Our Own Decisions - Indian FA Chief Praful Patel
While the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) vice-president Manilal Fernando batted for current All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Alberto Colaco, the acting Indian FA president Praful Patel didn’t budge and added that the “search” for the successor is on...
“I have seen the advertisement for the post of All India Football Federation (AIFF) General Secretary but this is not the right time to make any changes in the set-up.
“AIFF should get new and professional people to strengthen the hands of present General Secretary Alberto Colaco.”
He further stated that India’s preparations for the 2011 Asian Cup would be hampered if the top bosses in the Indian FA are substituted at the present moment.
“India should now concentrate on preparations to fight against the top Asian teams in two years. If they lose badly in the AFC Asian Cup, it will give a bad image to India and push South Asia again into the wilderness.
“And to avoid this, they should stick to the present administration set-up and play international matches regularly outside the country.”
The FIFA Development Officer for Central and South Asia met Praful Patel on Tuesday and mentioned of the essential to continue with Colaco rather than bringing in a fresh candidate.
It must be noted that Alberto Colaco had himself resigned from the post of general secretary.
However, acting Indian FA president remained defiant and clearly stated that the AIFF wouldn’t be dependent on any advice from the outside.
“We are the All India Football Federation. We shall take our decisions and are capable of it,” said Patel outlining his stance on the subject.
“The search for the new general secretary and the CEO of the I-League is on. The matter shall be discussed in the Executive Committee on the 30th of this month,” added the Civil Aviation Minister.
Meanwhile, Patel confirmed that Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) are to sponsor the upcoming I-League.
“Yes, ONGC has agreed to sponsor the I-League,” Patel told Goal.com.
