Kalyan Feels Betrayed By Mumbai FC

Mumbai FC goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey is disappointed with his club for failing to honour the two year contractual agreement, while the club management maintain that the player is guilty of “double employment.”

The former Indian international signed a two year deal with Mumbai FC last season after being part of the team which guided the club in its very first season into the top division. However at the start of this season, the player wasn’t contacted by the club.

The former Mahindra United player wrote to Mumbai FC asking about his current status and the financial remuneration from the past year, which he is yet to be compensated. The club, in turn, stated that since the player is “double employed” and didn’t intimate Mumbai FC about it, he would be sacked or that he has a choice to resign.

Speaking to Goal.com, Mumbai FC business and marketing head, Mukul Chowdhury said, “Yes, he has been guilty of double employment without intimating us in the very first place.”

Meanwhile, Kalyan has a different tale to tell from what Mumbai FC claim.

“I do have a job with the Income Tax and I am not being financially remunerated by the company. Under the leave without pay scheme, I am free to join and play for any club.

“I have been with Income Tax for the last ten years or so, and throughout my professional playing career, where I represented some of the best clubs, never has such an incident occurred wherein the club questions my employment,” said Kalyan.

The former Indian international was given a period of 48 hours to respond to Mumbai FC’s letter and that player did send his reply within the stipulated period last week.

“If they think that I didn’t inform them about my employment, then why did they allow me to play for the Income Tax in the two seasons I have spent with them? I took the permission of the coaching staff and the management and they released me to play for the company. The tournament was held after the Federation Cup, which means that there were no training sessions or matches I missed,” added Kalyan.

The Mumbai FC coaching staff and management has undergone major shuffling over the summer with David Booth, Henry Menezes and Arshad Hussain joining the ranks of Mahindra United. Mumbai FC U-19 coach Khalid Jamil has taken over as the head coach while Henry Picado is the new team manager.

Kalyan is expected to put forth his case in front of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in the coming days in his bid to sort his future.

“I wrote to Mumbai FC as I wanted to clear my future. I didn’t want to be in a spot where I would be embarrassed by signing for two clubs as it happened last year to some of the players whom I don’t wish to name.

“I shall very soon write to the AIFF and thereby, seek justice in the matter,” said a determined Kalyan.
