Another Reason Why Overage Boys Attended the India U-16 Camp
The Indian Football Association (IFA), which is the state football association of West Bengal, has written to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) stating that they weren’t kept in the loop when the boys from their state were selected for the India U-16 camp...
The IFA clearly distanced itself from the allegations and mentioned in a written letter that one of the two boys from Bengal had been rejected from getting an entry into the state’s academy in Haldia for being overage.
Speaking to Goal.com, IFA secretary, Utpal Ganguly said, “We have written to the AIFF stating that we haven’t selected those players nor do we know how did they select them.
“Of the two boys, one played for our Bengal team in the nationals. When we conducted age verification test, the boy wasn’t granted an entry into our academy in Haldia.
“We weren’t intimated that the two boys were being selected from our state and hence, we had no opportunity to eliminate the problem.”
If the state associations are taken into confidence and informed of the national selections, probably, they could lend their hand in assisting the AIFF to verify the ages and thereby avoid getting publicly embarrassed.
