With the Indian FA looking for a general secretary to replace the long serving Alberto Colaco, Bhowmick had earlier shown some desire for the top job but has now changed his mind.

Speaking to Goal.com, Subhash Bhowmick said, “I was thinking of that job but on second thoughts, I feel I must stay with East Bengal as I have given my word to them.

“I can’t be dishonest with them at this crucial juncture of pre-season as they are depending on me so much.”

But Bhowmick gave his opinion and felt that more and more ex-players must apply for the general secretary’s position.

“For that position, you either have to be a really good administrator or an ex-footballer with a good footballing sense.

“All over the world, several ex-players are involved in running the show – Michel Platini, Karl Heinze Rummenigge . Why not in India? I would like to see more and more ex-players apply for the job.”

Having returned from his foreign sojourn, Bhowmick has shown interest in Lebanese defender Ramez Dayoub, who could very soon don the Red and Gold jersey.

“We are also looking at Edmilson and Sebastian Omar, who is an Argentinean. A Czech midfielder Jan Berger has also being asked to come for trials next week,” added Bhowmick.
