East Bengal Interested In Bhaichung

It seems more than likely that Bhaichung Bhutia would return to East Bengal after a gap of three years after he made his decision to sever all ties with Mohun Bagan.

The Sikkimese Sniper was left highly disappointed with Mohun Bagan who publicly humiliated him by distributing copies of the show cause notice to the media. The Indian skipper announced that he doesn’t have any motivation whatsoever to don the Green and Maroon jersey in the future.

East Bengal have been relatively inactive in the transfer market especially going by the big names whom they promised to bring at the club. They have got some average and budding players but no big name has been signed as yet. Though East Bengal coach Subhash Bhowmick stated that big money players seldom deliver, hinting his displeasure over Bhaichung’s national team-mate Sunil Chhetri, it’s reliably learnt that the former Salgaocar coach’s stand on the veteran is different.

The Red and Gold’s are to call an emergency meeting later today and shall mull over the possibility of landing Bhaichung Bhutia back to where he had some of the most glorious moments in his career. Though the club has been hit by a credit crunch, it is believed that the sponsors would be more than happy to welcome the Indian icon to the club as he brings ‘much more’ than mere footballing prowess.

Speaking to Goal.com, East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar said, “All this has happened in no time. For now, Bhaichung is still a Mohun Bagan player with a year left on his contract. If they decide to release him, then we shall surely consider the option of bring him over to the club.”

Amongst other I-League clubs, Salagocar SC’s general secretary Raj Gomes mentioned that he would have welcomes Bhaichung had this happened about a month or so back.

“We have already made our team and we can’t get rid of our players to accommodate space for him.”

The same thoughts were echoed by a senior Mahindra official and added that it was the 'best possible time to snap Bhaichung'.

Meanwhile, though Pune FC’s Derrick Pereira has shown an interest in the star striker, the move seems unlikely given the lack of a hefty budget with the I-League debutants.
