Official: David To Drive The Jeep!
David Booth has officially completed his switch from Mumbai FC to Mahindra United and has signed a deal which shall keep him until the end of 2011-12 season.
The Englishman had done reasonably well with newcomers Mumbai FC and guided them to a seventh place finish in the I-League. But following the resignation of general manager Henry Menezes from Mumbai FC, Booth followed suit and moved away from the financially troubled club.
Mahindra United were on the lookout for a coach mid-way through the second phase of the I-League and had even approached Mohun Bagan’s Karim Bencherifa.
Following the delay on the part of the Jeepmen, the Moroccan had committed himself to the Green and Maroons and the Mumbai club couldn’t manage to get his signature. Before the final two Mumbai League games, Mahindra United and Derrick Pereira officially parted ways stating that it was the latter who wanted a fresh opportunity.
David Booth’s appointment has been greeted by all the Mahindra players which is a positive sign for the club. This is his second stint with Mahindra United after the 2003-04 season. The 61 year old has earlier worked in Ghana, United Kingdom, Thailand, Maldives, Vietnam, Myanmar and Brunei.
